Mad Science Lesson Plan 22-27 May 2023

Team,

Here are the Mad Science notes and lesson plan for 22-27 May 2023.

Jiu-Jitsu Focus:

  1. Adults: Gi: Top Half Bottom    / No Gi: Positional Q&A
  2. Youth: Movement Correlation to Technical Skills

Judo Focus:

  1. Adult: Integration of Sambo-specific concepts
  2. Youth: Skill development and drilling

Kickboxing Focus: Lateral Movement Focus (all).

Notes:

1. This Saturday (May 27th) is the Mad Science Adult (gi) Practice tournament!!!!! You can pre-register (and save $10) here: https://calendly.com/mad-science-/mad-science-open-adult-registration

In addition to our normal divisions (this one is the Gi tournament), We are adding an extra division (Sambo) division for people to give it a try. The Jiu-Jitsu is focused on white and blue belts, but the Sambo division is open to anyone of any rank. We are bringing in a national Sambo Referee to facilitate the matches and give in-depth rules briefing to all who wish to give it a try (you should try it – it's really neat).

2. It is now official - We have partnered with USA Kickboxing and K1. Coach Ted is completing his USA Kickboxing certifications and we have started to implement their training curriculum. We will be one of only about 20 certified schools in the United States and gives our future athletes the ability to work towards representing the United States in the Olympics (Kickboxing will be added in 2028). Realistically, most folks who train in our kickboxing program have no interest in stepping foot inside the ring – and that’s okay.  What it brings to everyone is a more modern and developed curriculum developed by the best of the best.

3. Next Monday (29th) we will start the first six-week cycle of additional skills reinforcement in the youth program. I have only had 3 of the current members opt-in so far. There is no cost for existing members, we just need to know so we can produce enough workbooks for everyone. It is not mandatory at present, but it will help reinforce the development of life skills outside of the academy. Participants will be given (in the workbook) exercises/ tasks to practice discipline, accountability, gratitude, resilience, etc. at home, unveiling the real secret to success both on and off the mat. Again, it is not mandatory for existing members, but it would be a good thing for all – if you want your child to participate, just let me know and I will get them a workbook.
